… and so is the Goodness Gracious menu……..slightly! After all those holidays, life slowly returns to normal. Autumn is on its way – it’s a beautiful time of year in the Cape and hope upon hope that we get drenched with rain added to a spot of cooler weather. We thought it would be an ideal time to tell you about the first of our comfort food, wintery dishes which we are adding to our menu.
We have casseroles and curries for carnivores and herbivores alike that are simply delicious. Here’s a suggestion for those of you who would like to do something about the amount of noxious gases emanating from cows these days. Swap a few meals or do “Meat Free Mondays” with less of the red and more of the green; it’ll make you feel good in so many ways and you’ll be saving the world! Try our Thai Vegetable Curry on offer at R120 – it will feed at least 2 people and if you like, we’re offering an a new special side dish accompaniment of Basmati Rice & Lentils which feeds 2-3 people at R40. Perfect for vegans as well.
For those of you who prefer less of the green and more of the red, another classic dish for cooler weather is our Beef Bourguignon. At R155, this will generously serve 2 people or spend a little more (R285) and serve the whole family (all our serves 4+ dishes are suitable for 4 to 6 servings!). We cook this traditional French dish of tender prime beef cubes slowly, very slowly, with loads of red wine, baby onions, mushrooms & bacon so that you get the full benefit of all those flavours to make the most of those cooler evenings. And all you need to do is decant the container into a pot or casserole dish and serve with creamy mash potatoes or rice. C’est très bien!
With Winter slowly on the way we are now finishing with our Summer Berry Crumble and replacing it with a Pear, Blackberry & Hazelnut Crumble. This crumble serves 3-4 for R120 and 6-8 people for R230. Full of goodness .. winter fruits topped with a hazelnut crumble with a hint of cinnamon & orange makes a truly scrumptious pudding served with lashings of cream! You might think that hosting a Moroccan dinner is a bridge too far but here’s the answer – buy our Lamb Tagine with Apricots & Almonds; it is incredibly popular despite being a touch expensive but our lamb is organic, very lean and tender and comes from the Karoo. This classic Moroccan dish is perfect for large get-togethers and if you give us a little notice we can make it in our large size containers for you. And if you really don’t feel like doing too much then here are a few more tips…
For a pre-dinner nibble buy some lovely marinated olives, place in a little bowl and then add a couple of dips such as hummus or home-made Baba Ganoush which is honestly easier to make than spell! Heat your Lamb Tagine in a casserole dish or pot and serve with couscous tossed with a little mint & lemon, or our new Basmati Rice & Lentils side dish. Entertaining made easy.
